Prehistoric Land
There's a special place in Daejeon that we like to call Prehistoric Land.
We walked past this sign a couple of times a week and always wondered what was behind the wall. What was this mysterious "Dunsan Prehistoric Park"? One day we finally just decided to go in.
What happened was this: When someone was putting up a building, they discovered some prehistoric remains. Of course, they couldn't stop building, so instead they moved them to a little park in the Dunsan neighborhood.
The park mainly consists of three prehistoric huts. Yes, that's prehistoric blue tarp and a prehistoric fire extinguisher. Just kidding--the huts are just reconstructions. (Sorry to disappoint any of you who thought a hut like this might survive 5,000 years.)
When you get close to the entrance, a light comes on and you can see some prehistoric people doing their own thing. Sadly, they are also reconstructions, not the real thing.
Supposedly you can also see the remains--I think they're pottery shards or something like that--but I've never seen them, so maybe that's just a rumor that's been spread to make the whole thing a little less ridiculous.
On our last visit, we made a new discovery--a bunch of Flintstone-esque rocks in one corner of the park are actually made of styrofoam. Guess they couldn't find any real rocks to relocate to the park.
The park is near Baskin Robbins, so whenever we get ice cream, we usually go to the park to eat it. There are a few benches and there are always people hanging out. I think they just go there because it's a nice little park. They don't truly appreciate the prehistoric aspect like we do! Now it's cold so we've probably seen Prehistoric Land for the last time, but it's definitely one thing we won't forget about living in Daejeon. And now you can share in the joy, too! No need to thank me.
