Our Excursion Itinerary

We're all set for our excursion to Mt. Everest! We leave tomorrow morning (Monday) at 7 a.m. and will drive for 6 hours or so to Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet and also home to a famous monastery. The next day we'll ascend to 5,500 meters at Everest Base Camp and stay the night there, either in tents or at the guesthouse of a nearby monastery (my vote is for the guesthouse!). Then we'll head back to Lhasa, stopping to spend the night in Gyantse, the third largest city in Tibet and also home to a famous monastery. On the last day, we'll stop at Lake Yamdrok-tso and then get back to Lhasa in the evening.

We're all stocked up with oxygen canisters, altitude sickness medicine, and rhodiola tablets, a traditional Tibetan treatment for altitude sickness. Hopefully we've adapted enough that we won't get too sick!
