First Impressions

After traveling some 20-odd hours from Korea to Fairfield, we stopped at Burger King for dinner before driving the last couple of miles home. This is what we were missing all that time: king-sized drinks!





On the left, you have our king-sized Diet Coke; on the right is my mom's medium Diet Coke. The medium is even bigger than the largest drink you can get in Korea at fast food places like Burger King. That was our first piece of reverse culture shock.

It wasn't as hard to adjust to life in the U.S. as we thought it would be, though. The biggest difference was space. Wide open spaces on the drive home from the airport, huge parking lots, and most of all, the huge berth people give you when you're just walking around. People say "Excuse me" when there's the slightest chance they could possibly bump into you...and that is awesome. Personal space is hands down the best thing about being home.

Now we're about to head back to a crowded Asian country, but I don't think people in China are as bad about mindlessly ramming into you. When we were in Beijing in October, there were tons of people because it was a big holiday week in China, Japan, and Korea. Even with all those crowds, the only time I got bumped into was by a middle-aged Korean guy, so I'm not too worried!
