Hareubang

These guys are hareubang, a kind of mysterious statue that Jeju is famous for. No one knows for sure where they came from or what their purpose was, but most likely they guarded villages by warding off evil spirits and bringing luck.

There are 45 or so original statues of various sizes left on the island, scattered around in strategic tourist spots. These two are at the bonsai garden we went to. (More on that later!)

The beach didn't turn out so great--it was really windy and the water was cold--but we did a lot of other cool things. The best part was that the weather was excellent. It started raining on the peninsula the day we left, but on the island it didn't rain a drop. The first day (when we went to the beach) was sunny and hot, and the next two days (when we did a bunch of sightseeing) were overcast and cool. Every person we know who's been to Jeju had only one day out of three or four where it didn't rain, so we feel pretty lucky!
